STEELIBS |
Fast steel alloy recognitions without surface preparation |
Tecnar’s STEELIBS is a non-contact sensor to measure in a few seconds the exact concentration of all the important alloying elements in steel making such as C, Ni, Mo, Mn, Cr and many more. |
One of the main aspects of the instrument is to remove the oxide layer on the part prior to analysing the chemistry of the metal. The oxide removal is key in obtaining a measurement that is representative of the bulk. Oxide removal has been optimized to remove the thickest oxides, up to 250 um thick in less than 10 seconds. |
The STEELIBS has a standard deviation on the chemistry reading as low as 1%, although this can vary depending on the element’s type and concentration. It is mostly useful to assert alloy class in stock yards or in production to confirm the type of steel that is being produced. |

The current product is a stationary system that measure from underneath the parts. Further packaging will eventually include a portable system. At all times, Tecnar’s long list of custom projects also applies to this technology and any special enquiries are welcome. |

The STEELIBS can also be used in scrap sorting prior to recycling. It requires no surface preparation and can do a measurement on various types of surfaces. |
